Founded by Dr. Sean Greenlaw in 2025, Verdigris Pet Hospital and Emergency Care brings top-quality preventive, routine, emergency, and advanced veterinary care to New Bern and Craven County, North Carolina.
Our staff is committed to ongoing personal growth and education, allowing us to always provide top-notch service and care in a continually progressive field. Having served New Bern and the greater North Carolina coastal community since 2012, Dr. Greenlaw is excited to open his own facility and fill a void in the area for after-hours emergency services, as well as offer expanded access to routine care for New Bern’s growing pet population.

A Name, a Color, a Symbol, a Movement
“What’s in a name?”
Verdigris is the name of the color assigned to the green patina that forms on copper after having been exposed to air or water over time. Translated literally as “the green of Greece” it was the most vibrant green pigment available prior to the 19th century, its use prized in fine arts and medicine. Today, it’s a modern, refreshing hue symbolic of serenity and renewal, and on the spectrum of color most visually understandable to animals.
For us, to be named for a shade of green evokes a sense of purpose. It’s a reminder to function and operate our business in the best interests of our environment, community, and planet. Of course, our founder, Dr. Greenlaw, would agree that it’s best color, giving nod to his old childhood nickname, Verdes!
