Sean Greenlaw, DVM
Owner and Veterinarian
Dr. Greenlaw is not just your average veterinarian—he’s a super vet! A proud graduate of the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012, he’s spent over 12 years making tails wag and hearts purr in coastal North Carolina. But before he donned his white coat he earned a BS in Animal Science from the University of New Hampshire, graduating with honors—Cum Laude, to be exact! Following many years of experience at other animal hospitals in the area, he opened Verdigris Pet Hospital where he combines his passions for both general care, and emergency medicine, into one amazing practice. He especially enjoys soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, and working with exotic pets. When he’s not saving the day for our furry friends, you can find Dr. Greenlaw outdoors! Whether he’s hiking up a mountain, running through the trails, or getting his hands dirty in the garden, he’s all about embracing nature. He shares his home in New Bern with his wonderful wife and their three rescue fur babies: Axel, Neuse, and Storm, who keep life fun and full of joy!

Julia Sheffield, DVM
Associate Veterinarian
Originally from Vanceboro, Dr. Sheffield is excited to be back in Eastern NC after her travels! She has a special passion for emergency medicine and dedicates her nights to providing top-notch care for pets in their greatest times of need. Every day brings something new and unknown, and she feels privileged to give a voice to the furry friends she loves. When she’s not busy saving lives, you can find her hiking through the great outdoors with her husband and their two lovable pitbull mixes. Together, they enjoy bear hunting and are also avid soccer and hockey fans—go ‘Canes! One of her favorite patients was a tiger with a tail injury. With patience and care, Dr. Sheffield and her team were able to gain this kitty’s trust and provide healing laser therapy while she was wide awake and happily munching on snacks. Talk about a purr-fect day at work!

Suzanne Zbailey, DVM
Associate Veterinarian
Hailing from the picturesque landscapes of New England, Dr. Zbailey traded her cozy roots for the sunny skies of eastern North Carolina in 2015. After earning her veterinary degree from Washington State University, she dove headfirst into the world of mixed animal medicine, spending a couple of years in Vermont, and then sharpening her skills for another six years in Alberta, Canada. With a passion for surgery and internal medicine, Dr. Zbailey has a special soft spot for senior dogs—because every pup deserves a golden retirement! She also can’t resist a puppy and will go out of her way to give belly rubs, whether they’re her patients or not! When she’s not tending to our furry friends, you can find her enjoying life with her beloved boxer-pitbull mix, Lotus. Whether it’s a challenging surgery or just a friendly wag, Dr. Zbailey is dedicated to making a difference, one paw at a time!

Gabrielle McGee, DVM, MSVBS, EAZMVC
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. McGee is a spirited new veterinarian with deep roots right here in Eastern North Carolina! She’s not just wearing her white coat—she’s earned it! Graduating from Kansas State University with a BS in Biology, followed by a master’s in Veterinary Biomedical Sciences. Now, she’s ready to dive head first into veterinary medicine as a DVM, complete with a certificate in Exotic Animal/Zoological Medicine! When she’s not busy saving the day for our animals, Dr. McGee is a proud pet parent to her 3 beloved doggies: Lalo, Sadie, and Louié. Family time is her jam, and she loves sharing laughter and adventures with her incredibly supportive husband and their playful pups. An adventurous soul, Dr. McGee thrives on the great outdoors—whether she’s fishing, hiking, or getting crafty with woodworking. Cooking up delicious meals and cozy movie nights in are also her favorite ways to unwind. With certifications in Fear Free handling for companion animals and avian species, Dr. McGee is passionate about wildlife conservation and exotic animal medicine. She’s all about delivering top-notch healthcare while nurturing the human-animal bond. She’s also eager to make a positive impact through community outreach. Taylor, RVT

Taylor is a licensed veterinary technician with a heart full of passion for animal health and a knack for client education! With years of hands-on experience, she brings a calm, knowledgeable vibe to every patient interaction—ensuring that furry friends receive top-notch, compassionate care at every stage of their journey. Currently on her quest for knowledge, Taylor is diving into continuing education with a focus on animal nutrition and behavior—ready to specialize in these areas to better serve pets and their families. She takes pride in keeping up with the latest advancements in veterinary medicine because, for her, learning never stops! Originally hailing from Ohio, Taylor now calls the beautiful state of North Carolina home. When she’s not at the hospital, you can find her embracing the great outdoors—hiking, fishing, and kayaking her way through nature’s playground. Heather is a licensed veterinary technician on a mission to sprinkle some pawsitive vibes in the world of veterinary medicine. Whether it’s giving top-notch care to her furry patients or forming heartwarming bonds with their humans, Heather pours her heart into everything she does! When she’s not busy being a pet superhero, you can find her enjoying life with her husband and their adorable kids, along with their lively pack of two dogs and four mischievous cats! Heather also shines on her church’s worship team, where she shares her love for music and community. Whether it’s caring for critters, or making joyful noise, Heather is all about spreading love and happiness wherever she goes!

Rebecca, RVT
Veterinary Technician
Rebecca is a licensed veterinary technician and lifelong resident of Eastern North Carolina who has transformed her passion for veterinary medicine into a vibrant career. With over 10 years spent in general practice, she made the exciting switch to emergency care, drawn by the dynamic variety of patients and the endless opportunities for learning. Aspiring to specialize in emergency and critical care one day, Rebecca thrives on the challenges that each unique case brings. What she loves most about her job isn’t just the fascinating medical puzzles, but the deep bonds she forms with her patients and their owners. There’s nothing quite like witnessing the growth and recovery of those in her care—it’s the ultimate reward! Rebecca shares her heart—and her home—with two lovable pitties, two cats, and five chickens, alongside her husband. Together, they affectionately refer to their little crew as the “funny farm.” When she’s not busy saving lives, you can find Rebecca running, taking long walks, tending to her garden, or immersed in a good book. Music also plays a huge role in her life, especially her passion for collecting vinyl records. Bailey is a vibrant spirit from right here in our charming state of North Carolina! With a passion for baking and a zest for travel, she has explored many stunning destinations, with Greece capturing her heart as the favorite! Her journey in veterinary medicine began at just 17 years old, and it didn’t take long for her to discover that it was her true calling. She thrives in the thrill of providing patients with emergency care—especially exotics! Outside of work, Bailey is all about good vibes—she enjoys listening to music, and has a knack for making people laugh. She shares her home with a lovable golden retriever named Bellatrix, and a quirky bearded dragon name Sage. What truly drives Bailey is her dedication to helping anxious pet owners and their companions, providing comfort and support during challenging times. With her uplifting spirit and genuine compassion, Bailey leaves a lasting impact on everyone she meets.

Maddie
Veterinary Assistant
Maddie is an animal enthusiast who’s been living her dream and entire career in the pet industry! With a passion for furry friends that’s as big as her heart, she jumped into the world of veterinary medicine in 2019 at a bustling daytime practice. But it didn’t take long for her to discover her true calling as an emergency medicine superstar! As the ultimate overnight hero, Maddie thrives in the wee hours when many pets would otherwise be left alone and without supervised care. Known for her incredible knack for taking in pets with major medical challenges and even some missing body parts, she’s a true champion for those in need. When she’s not saving the day at the hospital, Maddie is busy at home with her fabulous crew of 5 dogs and 3 cats, making every day an adventure! Maddie’s dedication and passion for pets shine through every day, making her a true superhero in the veterinary world!

Seanna
Veterinary Assistant
Seanna is a Florida native with a flair for the extraordinary! Growing up in the Sunshine State, she developed the ability to communicate with alligators (or so she claims) and boasts a collection of flip flops that could rival any fashion runway. She comes to New Bern with her husband, a dedicated Marine, and her role as a veterinary assistant allows her love for animals to truly shine. Whether she’s calming a nervous pup or caring for a feisty kitten, her passion for pets is as strong as her dream of one day opening a beachside café that serves tropical smoothies and gourmet ice cream flavors inspired by her favorite romantasy books. A self-proclaimed mermaid in another life, Seanna is keenly interested in marine conservation and spends her weekends organizing beach clean-ups. With a big heart and an even bigger imagination, she’s ready to dive into new adventures and make a splash in the community!

Kyndra is an animal enthusiast whose passion for furry companions began in childhood and continues to flourish today! With her loyal labradoodle, Charlie, by her side and her beloved daughter, Ari, in tow, Kyndra is known for her big personality. She thrives on making connections and forging friendships. As a dedicated soccer mom, Kyndra balances her family time with her long-standing commitment to advocating for animal health and welfare. In her downtime you’ll find her whipping up healthy dog treats in the kitchen or exploring the great outdoors through hiking and fishing. Having recently relocated from Connecticut, she’s excited for new adventures and opportunities in New Bern. Kyndra has a special fondness for big dogs and looks forward to making meaningful impacts in her community!

Meet: The Local! Born and raised in our very own beloved, charming town of New Bern, Jonnie traces their roots back to Italy and will forever keep a slice of it in their heart! As the youngest of six, Jonnie’s childhood was filled with laughter, chaos, and a whole lot of furry friends. From cats and dogs to rabbits, Jonnie’s love for animals has been a lifelong adventure. Currently, Jonnie shares their home with a fabulous feline named Gilbert and an adorable guinea pig duo, Kale and Ant. When not busy solving puzzles or dreaming of their next travel destination, Jonnie is on a mission to adopt and foster elderly pets—because every pet deserves a cozy retirement and a warm place to call home!

From the sunny skies of Yuma, Arizona, Alyssa made the leap to North Carolina in 2023 with her husband, daughter, and their lively crew of five furry companions! With over a decade of experience in animal welfare and medicine, Alyssa’s passion for helping animals shines bright. Throughout her career, she’s fostered hundreds of pets, giving them a second chance at life and love. Now that she’s settled in NC, she’s excited to continue her journey in animal care while soaking up all the beauty her new home has to offer. She’s also eager to make a positive impact in the community!

Growing up on her family’s farm in Trenton, NC, Riley was knee-deep in adventure from day one! Whether she was wrangling cattle, brushing horses, or befriending goats, her childhood was a whirlwind of animal love. Her passion for animal welfare sparked early on, and she knew she wanted to dedicate her life to helping those who can’t speak for themselves. Currently, she’s a proud dog parent to three wonderful pups who keep her life lively and full of joy! One day, Riley dreams of having her own farm—a place where she can spread love and care to all creatures great and small. Because it’s our job to ensure our furry friends are always feeling their best!

Originally from Ohio, Alivia made her way to North Carolina via the Marine Corps. With over two years in the veterinary field, she’s on a mission to give a voice to those who can’t speak for themselves. Her passion for animals started early—who else would save worms from the sidewalk after a rain shower?! Alivia’s home is a mini-zoo, filled with a diverse range of pets, from cats and dogs to snakes, geckos, and even a tortoise! Her favorite patients? Definitely the exotics! For Alivia, the best part of working in the veterinary field is knowing that her efforts genuinely make a difference every single day.

At home, she’s a dedicated fur-mom to her lively crew: Buck, her spirited Australian Cattle Dog; Glitch, her quirky hairless mix; and the fabulous orange tabby, Catrick Swayze. With her calming presence and unwavering commitment, Katlin is dedicated to making each pet’s journey a little easier and a lot more loving!

Say hello to Courtney, the adventurous spirit who has explored the great outdoors and lived everywhere from the snowy peaks of Vermont to the sunny shores of Hawaii! A self-proclaimed busybody, she’s always on the lookout for new experiences and opportunities to learn and grow. Her diverse work journey has taken her through veterinary medicine, human healthcare, accounting, retail, and beyond! As a proud mom to three amazing kiddos and three adorable fur-babies, she knows a thing or two about balancing a busy life with love and laughter. Courtney’s passion for veterinary medicine goes back to when she was just 15, and since then, she’s gained a treasure trove of experience with everything from equine and livestock, to small animals and exotic pets. Her favorite part of working in vet-med? It’s the perfect blend of helping both animals and people, infusing her days with happiness!

Originally hailing from the picturesque hills of Pennsylvania, Allison made the sunny move to enjoy the beach life! She’s the proud mom of three wonderful children and the delighted grandmother of three adorable grandchildren, who bring her endless joy! She shares her home with three furry companions: one playful dog and two charming cats—one of whom is a brave three-legged wonder! With over 30 years of experience in the veterinary field, Allison’s journey began in high school as a veterinary assistant, and her passion for animals has only grown since then. She believes every creature has a beautiful soul and is dedicated to ensuring they all receive the love and care they deserve!

Michelle
Practice Manager
Originally from the foothills of Denver, Colorado, Michelle grew up on a small farm raising sheep, chickens, and veggies, cultivating her love for the land, and animals. Michelle earned her BSBA in Business Economics from Hawaii Pacific University and then dove into the fast-paced world of the automotive aftermarket industry where she spent nearly 15 years making waves! In her career, Michelle has helped champion the evolution and expansion of internationally recognized products and brands, served on executive councils, led committees, earned ambassadorships, and even successfully lobbied for Federal policy changes. Talk about a powerhouse! In 2020, Michelle channeled her passion for conservation by teaming up with the North Carolina Wildlife Federation to launch the New Bern Wildlife Chapter. She’s on a mission to educate others about the importance of protecting native ecosystems and nurturing habitats for wildlife. (And just to clarify, she appreciates all the offers to help with the grass at the hospital, but it’s doing its part to save the planet!) In her free time, Michelle enjoys cooking up delicious meals, tending to her garden, bird-watching, running, and sipping on fine(ish) wine. At Verdigris, she keeps everything running like a well-oiled machine under the direct supervision of her furry family: Axel, Neuse, and Storm.
