Verdigris Pet Hospital has been dedicated to New Bern, North Carolina, since long before we opened our doors – as much to the people as to the pets who call this community home. It’s why we volunteer our time, talent, and resources to support local animal-centered community organizations. Colonial Capital Humane Society

Colonial Capital Humane Society (CCHS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and the only no-kill shelter in Craven County. They provide homeless pets with a safe and nurturing environment full of enrichment, attention, and medical care while they wait for their forever homes. They also provide public awareness of the importance of spaying and neutering. In addition to accepting monetary donations, there are many available opportunities for service of time. Craven County Sheriff’s Department – Animal Protective Services

The Craven County Animal Protective Services Division (APS) enforces the county’s animal ordinances and educates the public on proper animal treatment and care. Among other responsibilities, Animal Control Officers and local law enforcement officers investigate animal cruelty cases and bring stray pets in off the streets.
Very often, the stray and abandoned animals picked up by Animal Control Officers require emergency veterinary care when the county shelter is not open. Craven County APS does not have a budget for this and relies solely on donations and support from the community. If you would like to donate to their medical care, contributions can be made directly to the APS account at our hospital.
Additionally, Friends of Craven County Sheriff’s Office (FOCCSO) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides funds to projects not funded or budgeted for by Craven County, including Animal Protective Services (APS) and the K-9 Officer’s Unit. Donations can be made via Paypal. ***If you would like your donation to go directly to APS or the K-9 Unit, please make a note of this on your donation.***
The Purple Leash Project

With only 17% of domestic violence shelters in the United States able to accept pets, victims and survivors often delay leaving their abusers because they would have to leave their pets behind. Purina and Red Rover® developed the Purple Leash Project in a mission to keep pets and people together, and bring animals and their owners from crisis to care.
Purple represents domestic violence awareness, and the leash is a symbol of the unbreakable bond between pets and their people. Read more about how you can help here.

myBalto Foundation

Verdigris Pet Hospital’s “Angel” account is a fund established directly at our hospital by the myBalto Foundation to help pet owners facing financial difficulty access necessary veterinary care. Round up at checkout, or make your own fully tax-deductible donation to support pet owners in our community. Every dollar is used right here in our own hospital to help local New Bern pets and pet families who have exhausted all other options, and face difficult decisions based on affordability.
