What if I already carry a different pet insurance policy?

Not a problem! We will provide you with you with detailed records and an itemized invoice from your visit so that you can quickly and easily file a claim with your provider. In many cases, we can even file it for you directly from our office if you have your policy information available at the time of your visit.

Most pet insurance is designed to cover the unexpected, like accidents, illness, and hereditary conditions. In order to keep costs affordable, most pet insurance policies do not include coverage for standard pet care expenses that you can plan and budget for, like routine care, vaccines, and preventives.

Where pet insurance is typically more of a “reactive” plan for after a medical event happens to your pet, wellness care is a “proactive” plan that can help you budget and spread out costs for your pet’s routine medical care throughout the year. Our Care Plans can be used for any products and services at Verdigris Pet Hospital, including wellness care, vaccines, bloodwork, and preventives!

Costs for pet insurance plans vary based on your pet’s age, breed, and more—as well as what coverage options you choose. Plan pricing is specific to each insurance insurance company, but premiums are typically paid on a monthly basis.

Most often you will pay your veterinarian in full at the time of your visit, and then submit your receipts, or file a claim, to your insurance company for reimbursement. This process varies by provider, but if you bring your policy information with you to your appointment, our team can often do this for you directly from our office before you leave.

With Trupanion pet insurance plans, you don’t have to wait for reimbursement! Your plan will pay will pay us directly at checkout for your covered pet care expenses, meaning that money owed to you under your pet’s insurance policy never leaves your wallet to begin with!

Unfortunately, many pet insurance companies won’t cover any medical or health concerns that your pet had any point prior to your purchase of a policy. Pet insurance is a personal choice. Our recommendation at Verdigris Pet Hospital is that if you were faced with an important, life-saving surgery or treatment for your pet, would you have the ability to pay for it? If not, get the pet insurance! Sometimes, you won’t end up using it. But if it could mean the difference in saving your pet’s life or health, you will be glad to have it.
